ALSTROEMERIA PSITTACINA "MONA LISA", PERUVIAN LILY

Unlike many other Peruvian lilies, "Mona Lisa" is known to come true from seed. This splendid form has much bigger and more numerous flowers than the species, and the red colour is brighter. It cames from Denmark, where for decades it was grown for the needs of the royal court. The variety was widespread thanks to Danish nurseryman Arne Jensen. The name "Mona Lisa" was given in honor of Jensen's wife and does not apply to the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. This fabulous Alstroemeria is great in border or cold greenhouse, patio and as a cut flower. It is not quite hardy and some mulch for winter is recommended.
