I am delighted  to offer an extraordinary original postcard showing stokers  aboard a ship c1905, possibly one of the Big Four White Star Liners, Celtic, Cedric or Baltic. Fascinating picture of members of the Black Gang' who toiled night and day in the bowels of the ship. Temperatures in this cramped space woukd have been unbearably hot. When Titanic struck an iceberg firemen like these began the vital job of drawing the fires to prevent explosions caused by the freezing water flooding the furnaces. Please note I cannot be  sure this is a White Star Line boiler room. However, I am confident that  Gale and Polden did not produce many transatlantic liner postcards excepting some scarce early cards of White Star's Celtic, Cedric and Baltic marking each ships entry into service.(they have the same 'Nelson' identification printed on the back) Perhaps this could be the boiler room of one of these famous White Star ships?  I imagine an image like this was not one the shipping companies were keen for the wealthy travelling public to see given the harsh reality it shows.

Thanks for looking.
