For auction is an extremely rare silver colored metallic (probably aluminum) book celebrating the completion of the Victoria Jubliee Bridge in 1898 located in Montreal Canada. The book was published by the Grand Trunk Railroad System in 1900 and was given to a select few as gifts.

The book measures approximately 7 3/4 by 6 1/4 inches. The entire cover is silver metal with a hinge for opening on the front and reverse. The cover has a polished swirl finish with etched corners around the front picture as well as ornamental etching on the sides of the spine. Each corner on the reverse has a half circle metallic support that resembles a nail or spike head. The supports lift the book and are the only part of the book that touches the surface, reducing the risk of scratching and also reducing potential wear on the book.

The front picture shows the completed bridge with completion date while the reverse shows the Victoria Tubular Bridge which was opened in 1860 by His Royal HIghness The Prince of Wales during the first Royal Visit to Canada. Most of the original masonry piers of the old bridge were used for the new Victoria Jubilee Bridge.

The pages have gold gilt edges and are quite thick. They are attached to the spine by a red fabric binding only visible through three small holes on the spine.  Each photo inside is covered with tissue guard with the information about the photo printed on the tissue guard. There are approximately 22 pages and many photos. There is a spectacular four panel fold-out panoramic photo of Old Montreal with captions of important landmarks shown on the photo.

Condition is outstanding for the age. No names, marks or writing inside. No foxing on the pages nor rips on any of the tissue guards. Minor wear visible on the metal yet the bright silver color is still vibrant. This is a museum quality book and would add greatly to any vintage book, railroad or Canadian history collection.

I have tried to find information about this book, yet have found nothing. Since it was complimentary, I doubt many were made. A few of the photos can be found in other volumes or collections as images online. This may be a unique book, or at least, extremely rare.

Tracked shipping to Canada and the continental USA will be $25.00
