This is an original, open-face, keyless wind, silver 0.800 Omega pocket watch made in Switzerland circa 1900.

 

DIAL: The white enamel dial has black Arabic Art nouveau numerals with outer minute divisions and inner red 13-24 hour numbers. The dial has nice golden chased hands and a subsidiary seconds dial at the six. The dial has a slight hair cracked. The dial is signed in the upper centre: "OMEGA" and protected by an original glass.

 

MOVEMENT: The high grade fifteen jewels anchor movement has a plain cock with polished steel regulator and a club foot lever escapement with compensation balance wheel. Movement numbered:7059839 - The pocket watch is in great working condition, however we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique pocket watch. The movement is decoratively signed "OMEGA".

 

CASE: The pocket watch lies in a slightly rubbed silver 0.800 open-face case.  The inner side of the case is stamped for silver 0.800 and numbered 7748581. The outer side of the cuvette shows different medals and is decoratively signed: "OMEGA, Grand Prix, Paris 1900". (See pictures).

Omega History: The watch making firm Omega was found in 1848 by Louis Brandt in Le Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1880, it moved to its current location in Bienne, Switzerland. At the beginning, the company was not referred to as Omega. The name was later christened in 1894, when a watch model, the “Omega” was launched. Today, One of the world’s better known watch companies, they have been the official timekeepers for the Olympic Games, since 1932 and have also been supplying American and Russian astronauts with their “moon watch” since 1965 and 1975 respectively. The firm has been a member of the Swatch Group since 1983.
