Louis Sicard studio art Cicada wall pocket vase. The Cicada design originated in 1895 when Louis Picard was apprached by a wealthy client and asked to make a gift for his business associates. At the time Cicadas were prevalent in Provence France and considered fashionable by poets and other elites. The Cicada is a symbol of good luck and happiness. They are meant to be hung at door entrances to welcome guests..  This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or scratches. There is some slight crazing but hard to see.The original sticker and artist mark are on the bottom. The figurine measures 4 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches tall.
