This auction is for an extremely rare comic convention program for the 1967 New York Academy Con.  The first ever convention was in 1964 in New York, and the first San Diego convention was not until 1970, so this is a very very early show.

The program features Spider-Man art by Steve Ditko and a cover by Len Wein.  What is amazing about the front cover is that Len Wein is best known as a writer:  the co-creator of Swamp Thing and the New X-Men, but this cover was drawn by him at a time before his professional career had really taken off and he was still just a fan and not sure whether he wanted to pursue a career as an artist or as a writer.  The world all knows the choice he made, but even so this is a gem of a cover that features a well-drawn assemblage of Marvel, DC, and Charlton characters -- a scene that would have been impossible to depict in pro publications due to copyright issues.  There exists no such image of such an extensive cross-over of super heroes from the Silver Age such as appears on this cover.

It's been about five years since one of these '67 con programs has turned up for sale, and it has always been one of the toughest convention programs to find.
