From Puck Magazine an original 1884 chromolithograph print titled “The Situation” referring to the Mahdist War in the 1800s.

Egypt had controlled Sudan since 1820, but had itself come under British domination in 1882. In 1881, the Mahdist War began in Sudan, led by Muhammad Ahmad who claimed to be the Mahdi which are depicted in this print.

The artist is F. Graetz.

Please throughly study the photographs carefully for a better detailed description of the print. Text on reverse side from original magazine. Note that I reinforced one side of tattered edge with archival document repair tape. The print is in good shape for being over a century old.
