This is a vintage 1981 Sunsational Malibu Ken doll, number 3849, with black rooted hair and brown eyes. The doll is made of plastic and rubber, and is an original Mattel product. It is a fashion doll type, with a medium dark complexion and African American ethnicity. The doll comes without packaging, or beach wear, and is not personalized. It is a great addition to any doll collection, especially for fans of vintage dolls.
“Afro Ken” is the first Black Ken with rooted hair, and also the first Black male doll to be named Ken by Mattel.
