In my ongoing
quest to thin out my collection, I am or will be posting on Ebay a number of antique
phonograph parts and accessories that I picked up over the decades in here in
northern New England, usually in large lots or salvaged from machines beyond
restoration. This one is a really unusual find: a complete case for an early
Edison Home A “suitcase” style phonograph, from around 1896. (The case,
including the lid, measures 16.5”w x 12”h x 8”d.) Over the years I have come
across quite a few suitcase Homes with intact mechanisms and badly damaged (or
even ruined) cases, but only one really nice case without a mechanism; this is
it. As you can see, it is in very nice original condition, with a bright, bold
original decal; it has all four original latches, and its original crank hole
escutcheon, too. I have never had all four latches closed at the same time, and
I suspect, having sat unattached for all these years, the two halves may need a
little gentle adjusting to close tight, so please be prepared for that. If you
have been looking for one of these but have been holding out for a really nice
example, this is your lucky day; it’ll be years and years before you come
across another one even half as nice. Best of all, I offer it here with NO
RESERVE – high bidder takes it!
Be sure to see all the pictures! I'll be happy to
answer any questions you may have, but please try to ask as early as possible,
as it sometimes takes me a while to get to my email. Please see my other
listings, as I am running out of space and am thinning out my collection
considerably. I have several fine items up on Ebay right now, and will be
listing many more in the weeks and months to come, so please keep checking.
Good luck and happy bidding!
