This is a lovely bone china cup, decorated to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey. Queen Elizabeth became queen, on February 6, 1952 when her father King George VI died at the young age of 56. Queen Elizabeth was only 26! So young to lose a parent, much less became the Queen of England!

Back to the cup. This cup is made of fine bone china, by Stanley of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent England. The green backstamp under the glaze was used between 1952-1962 according to myporcelains.com, so the cup was probably made in late 1952 or 1953 in time for the coronation and celebration.

The cup is 3 & 1/4 inches tall, the diameter at the top is 2 & 3/8 inches, at the base is 2 & 3/4 inches and it holds 3/4 cup. The porcelain is very light and fine, and the cup weighs only 4 ounces. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. The gold must be a high karat, it is still very shiny and reflective. I see minimal wear to the Coat of Arms, the date on the other side, or the gold trim. A very nice cup and a special piece of history honoring the late Queen Elizabeth, if you have a British background or like things of historical significance. Plus it is strikingly pretty!
