Suffolk artist James Jack Allen 1935- was born in Framingham, Suffolk and started sketching wildlife and landscapes at a young age. He later joined the Army and served with the East Anglian Regimental Band during which time he started studying oil painting. On leaving the Army he lived in Norwich, working for Laurence & Scott's Electro Motors as an industrial artist. In 1977, he decided to become a professional artist, concentrating on local East Anglian landscapes & seascapes, wildlife and more and in later life, still life, working in oil on small canvas boards. He was a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1972-1982 and has exhibited throughout East Anglia. His work has also been shown at the Royal Academy, the Royal Miniature Society and he regularly exhibits at the Southwold Gallery, Suffolk. Many of his pictures are in collections in the UK and abroad.


This lovely small watercolour shows a small yellow chick sitting amongst grasses and daises with a beige and white mottled surroundings. Beautifully executed with lots of small intricate detailing and white highlighting. Signed with his distinctive tiny writing in the bottom right side, with his trademark paint palette and dog on reverse. Framed in gilt wood with green oval mount, in very good condition with no damage, there is a slight white dot to the left edge of mount, please see photos
