Unc (12: 3,4,5) BN. An outstanding rarity among the Indian cent varieties as it is one of the top 20 varieties and very difficult to locate in any grade. A census of known examples has the total under 60 pieces. This variety is about 3 times rarer than the 1873 Doubled LIBERTY. This variety is about twice as rare as the 1888/7. Most of the examples known are less than VF condition. Many are found with details lacking due to debris strike-throughs. The current condition census of the top five is: 64RB, 64BN, 63RD, 63RB, 63RB, 62BN. This is number 6. The coin is fully struck without any of the typical strike-throughs. It is a glossy brown with a trace of red in places. There is a slight scratch on the neck and in the field under the chin. The reverse is outstanding and would grade MS64BN on its own. Here is an outstanding opportunity to get one of the strongest doubled dies of the series. This is part of "Ned's 1865 DDR collection." This was a 25-year endeavor to buy this very rare variety.
