War for the Planet of the Apes is the latest film to stretch its PG-13 rating to the absolute limit. The film is pretty good, but at times it gets excessively dark and heavy. Apes are strung up on crosses, whipped and beaten. Significant characters are killed quite clearly and there is a suicide.
War for The Planet of the Apes, the third in this series, is a science fiction action movie. The movie is a prolonged battle between humans and apes with many distressing scenes. This makes it unsuitable for younger viewers.
STORYLINE
Two years after the events of Dawn of the planet of the apes, Caesar and his apes have been at war against the humans. As the apes start suffering heavy losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts in order to face Colonel McCullough and the traitorous gorilla Red.
Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.
