Following is an excerpt from a New York Times feature on historic fabric designs. “The Animalitos fabric came out in 1999. It is now extremely scarce. In fact, the only place I find it available is at a shop in London. Yrene Escandon, once a lady-in-waiting to Empress Carlotta of Mexico, embroidered a design in the 19th century. Senorita Escandon entered a convent after serving the Empress, and from 1860 to 1869, she worked with others to embroider a silk sampler with dogs, shy goats and butterflies. Ross Francis, the vice president for development at Brunschwig & Fils discovered the sampler at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, N.M.”
