Based on the novel by Jim Thompson, The Grifters tells a story of three desperate con artists based in the seedy underworld of Los Angeles. Lily (Huston) who secures odds at the racetrack for the mob, catches up with her son Roy (Cusack) after eight years, only to find him suffering from internal bleeding having been beaten up after a "con" backfires.
During his recovery Lily tries to gain control over Roy, but clashes with his sexy and manipulative girlfriend Myra (Bening).
