Spindle Back Deacons Bench - 1800s. Handmade. Sturdy but typical appearance of 100+ year old bench made to be used. One front leg is about an inch shorter than others. There are also style differences between the front legs and back legs. Interesting point is that the middle legs are off center. But the middle back spindle is centered. Assume this is because the back spindle and the back leg cannot be secured at the same point on the bench. At one time is was painted, but is currently stained.  The transition from paint to stain was poorly done (feels rough) and this piece would benefit from refinishing. The bottom of the bench has stains which indicate that a wire (now missing) was fastened, in a zig-zag pattern, so that men could place their brimmed hats underneath the bench. My age estimate is a guess based on its history in the state of Alabama.

I am willing to deliver for fee, within an hour or so, of the KC metro area.
