This is a lovely and rare antique Gibson & Sons Teapot with a cream blush background decorated with white and pink flowers and hand painted white enamel accents. There is a dark wine background behind the white flowers that really show off the design and lines of gold highlighting the handle, spout and edges of the teapot. The teapot is glazed with a satin glaze on the outside, and a shiny glaze on the inside.

The backstamp on the bottom of the teapot is “G & S Ltd, Royal Edward Ware” and a molded “England” near the edge of the pot. This backstamp was used starting in 1909, when King Edward VII was reigning, and he died the next year in 1910. I could not find how long this line of Royal Edward Ware was made, but probably not much past 1910, which makes this teapot quite rare. King Edward VII ruled from 1901-1910. He was Queen Elizabeth’s great grandfather, and the son of Queen Victoria.

The teapot is in excellent antique condition. There is crazing I can see with a flashlight on the inside of the pot, and a bit on the base, but not much on the body of the pot, except on the top edge. I see no chips or cracks, but there is some wear on the finial of the lid. There is one nick on the finial’s edge under the glaze and gold trim, and also a nick in the glaze on the edge that is dark with age. Not bad for a teapot up to 115 years old! There is some wear to the gold trim in places too.

The teapot is about 8 & 1/2 inches long from the outer handle to the tip of the spout and it stands about 5 inches high to the top of the lid. The diameter of the opening is 2 & 7/8 inches, the teapot and lid weigh 1 pound, 11 ounces and the teapot holds 4 cups easily.
