A very beautiful original French ceiling light shade in opaline white glass with a clear red glass fused trim. We have completed it with an antiqued brass gallery and new brass bulb holder, and you have only to provide your own electric flex. The colour of the opaque milky glass changes intensity and glows with the light. The shape is designed to represent the folded fabric of the very early days of electric lighting, when pieces of cloth were draped over glass or enamel 'reflecteurs' to make them more decorative.

We search antiques fairs and shops in France to source these and similar shades.  It's hard to date them exactly, but they were probably produced between the 1930s to 1950s.  They would suit just about any room, or look great in a shop or café.

In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks but please note that minor imperfections are inevitable with items of this age and which have been manufactured in small batches with a lot of hand finishing.   The vast majority of these old shades also have nibbles around the rim where the gallery is fixed, but they are not visible when it's in place.

Measures approx. 25cm max diameter x 10cm max height.  Bulbholder is bayonet fitting.  Electric flex and bulb are not included - this listing is for the shade, the brass gallery and the bulbholder.
