Stunning 1968 Rolex Oyster Submariner 5513 Gents Vintage Watch
The Overview
We are working with a UK based collector who has asked us to market a selection of his watches. Launched in 1953, The Rolex Submariner is the most famous watch in the world. Worn by President Obama to James Bond as well as divers and oil rig workers; it is the ultimate sports watch.
This example was made in 1968 and is in overall very good condition. The solid steel case will have been polished in the past but hasn’t been for a few years. There are fairly minor signs of wear around the case from regular but careful use. The guaranteed genuine Rolex signed dial is in excellent condition and the lume has aged to a beautiful mushroom colour – these have domed lenses and they’re tricky to photograph. The watch sits on a genuine Rolex ‘light’ bracelet with the references:

Whilst we guarantee it’s genuine Rolex it’s hard to know if this is the original bracelet. In terms of condition it does have some stretch and sag but is aesthetically very good and of course safe.
The Case
The solid steel case will have been polished in the past but hasn’t been for a few years. There are fairly minor signs of wear around the case from regular but careful use. The case measures 39mm across, excluding the Rolex crown and 47mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented Stainless Steel’, ‘5513’ and the age reference is ‘IV.68’ dating it to 1968
The Movement
The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by SHWR. The movement is signed ‘Rolex Geneva Swiss’, ’25 Fine Rubies’ and the calibre is ‘1520’.
The Box, Papers and Sonning Warranty
As with the majority of pre-owned watches that are 10 years or older, this particular watch does not come with its original box and paperwork. The watch is 100% genuine and rest assured we provide a lifetime guarantee on the authenticity and provenance of all the watches we sell.
Although there is no original paperwork, we do provide a written invoice and 3 page insurance valuation with the pictures of the watch and all available reference numbers. This is a rare and highly collectable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy.
