Tanzanite Information:
Tanzanite is the AGS birthstone for December. Discovered in the late 1960s, tanzanite has become extremely popular with knowledgeable fine jewelry collectors. Its scarcity and high value is a result of tanzanite’s limited availability and the sometimes all-too-volatile political and social conditions found in modern Tanzania. The original name given to this sparkling gemstone was blue zoisite and is reported to have been changed to tanzanite by Tiffany & Company.

Colors and Sources:
Tanzanite comes in a wide range of violet-blue shades. The darker shades of Tanzanite command substantial prices. Pieces offered here are delicately-hued, light violet-blue. The color of this all-natural gemstone will vary according to the light source as well as to the colors of surrounding objects. The color of this gemstone will vary from that seen on your computer monitor or on a color-printer print.

Tanzanite is found only in a hilly area called Merelani in Tanzania, Africa. Some knowledgeable sources have hinted that the available supply of Tanzanite is almost exhausted with no other sources known.     Due to current political conditions, all imports (including gemstones) from some countries are not permitted under United States law. In accordance with the law, none of the gemstones offered by CAB-FineJewelry are known to be from these countries. CAB-FineJewelry does not knowingly purchase, trade, sell or giveaway goods from any country embargoed by the United States of America. As individuals we may not agree with some of the laws of our great country. However, rather than breaking the law, we choose to work toward changing these laws in a orderly and legal manner and encourage you to do the same.

Care:
Tanzanite should be cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and, as with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used.
