As a rule of thumb, the higher the cap value, the darker the tone - using a high value such as this will give more bass and less treble as you role down the tone control.

The K40Y-9 are high quality paper in oil capacitors made for military. The conductor is made of aluminum foil and the dielectric is oil saturated paper,
glass sealed in a metal body. These capacitors provide excellent sonic characteristics, high tolerance is kept within a wide temperature range.


A word of warning: there is a lot of misinformation on the internet about paper in oil capacitors - some people seem to think that just because it is paper in oil it is therefore a great audio capacitor - this is not true!

K40Y-9 are the ones to go for in your guitar. Other types such as the KY42 series (these are the green ones) will not make your guitar sound better.
