SIGNED Richard Misrach

Richard Misrach. Grapestake Gallery, San Francisco, 1979. ISBN: 091798613X. Library Of Congress 78-71568. SIGNED by Richard Misrach on the first free endpaper. Unpaged. Quarto. First edition. Stiff illustrated wrappers. 54 duotone images printed on heavy stock paper. There is no text present. An elusive title. Very good.

The stark, unadorned design of this scarce early catalogue suits the austere tone of Misrach's desert landscapes. Made with a flash, these eerie photographs focus on monolithic natural features such as cacti, palm trees, and boulders. His images are not easily forgotten, recalling the surrealistic experience of driving through deserts at night, and seeing features of the landscape loom momentarily in the car headlights then recede into the dark. This early selection of original work is presented completely without text.

Covers show edge wear and some soiling. Upper right hand corner curls slightly upward. Scuff mark along side edge front cover. Soil spots to fore edge. Internally, glue from the binding visible on the inside front cover. Tanning to page edges. Solid binding. The photographs themselves are almost perfect.

A wonderful book. SIGNED by Richard Misrach. Very Scarce.
