These 4 TOP-OF-THE-LINE 8 INCH speakers have incredible sound.  They each feature a built-in crossover for both the woofer and the extra large one inch omnidirectional tweeter. The extra large magnet and voice coil makes for a very efficient unit (more power given as sound as opposed to heat disapp.). These speakers can really put out the sound.  For stereo applications there is NO NEED even for a subwoofer, as these units can reproduce a surprisingly low bottom end - in our showroom we actually shake the floor below, without a subwoofer.  Unlike the other models we sell, these units feature a tweeter TWICE the size of the others - the one inch Mylar tweeter is mounted on the exterior so that its sound is truly omnidirectional (grill doesn't interfere).  See photos below. With a 300watt rating, four of these units can reproduce 1,200 watts of Hi-Quality power, all while being concealed in the ceiling.  For home theater applications many installers recommend using a separate CENTER channel speaker, different from the left, right and rear speakers. This is because the center channel speaker must be of excellent quality as it reproduces the main vocals.  This speaker, however, has the quality rating of an excellent center channel speaker - so it can be used for all the speakers - center, left, right, and surrounds. Also, because these units are 8-ohm loads, you can wire two speakers on to each channel without overloading a receiver. This is useful since for a standard stereo installation, it is highly recommended that four speakers be installed into each room to eliminate hotspots. With less than four speakers in an average room with a <10' ceiling, the corners with speakers would be too loud in comparison with the corners without.  This is why for entertainment purposes where background music is to remain "in the background", four speakers per room are recommended. To give you an idea of the power rating of these units, for a recent installation we used 6 of these for a youth center - for teen dances - without a subwoofer.  The photo above on the right shows the ideal placement for 4 speakers in a room.  Speakers A/C go on the left channel, while speakers B/D go on the right channel. Any standard receiver designed to power 2 speakers can handle all 4 of these units (for controlling even more speakers with the same low-cost receiver see the end of this page for info on our control systems).  Note that the "X" in the above photo doesn't apply for standard stereo sound, you only need 4(or 2) speakers per room.  The "X" is there in the event you are purchasing these for a surround system and have your own center channel speaker (X represents that center channel speaker).  If you are planning to use these for surround and need a center channel speaker, you should be purchasing our 5-pack of these.

Did you notice how large the magnet in the photos above is? Why is this important?  Consider how a speaker works:  Power from your receiver is applied to an electric magnet (the voice coil of the speaker).  The magnetism of this electric magnet "fights against" a real "permanent" magnet.  The push/pull difference is what moves the speaker & makes sound.  So think about this:  The smaller the "real-permanent magnet" is, the less power you get in sound, but instead a higher percentage of power is given off in heat.  For a clear example, imagine removing the real-permanent magnet of a speaker. The speaker would make no sound, but would get very hot, giving off all the power from the receiver as heat.  It would still be a 300watt speaker, but you wouldn't be hearing those 300watts, you'd be heating the ceiling with them.  So then the opposite is equally true:  The larger the magnet, the more efficient the speaker and the deeper the bottom end.  Next, consider that the magnet is the most expensive part of a speaker.  It costs more for a big magnet, and it costs more to ship it.  So when manufacturers want to make a cheaper speaker, they skimp on the magnet.  THESE SPEAKERS weighs 4 lbs each!  (The shipping weight of four of these in the shipping box after secured with all the packing mateial is 20 pounds)    This weight of 4 lbs per speaker is ideal, as it is still light enough to mount securely on a drop ceiling tile, but it is able to reproduce sound at a level & clarity comparable to anything else on the market.  The magnets on these are TWICE the size of those on our compact ceiling speakers, and even they are great performing speakers.
