This is an authentic (NOT a computer scanned reprint), genuine1968
photogravure print (also known as héliogravure) from the original negative/print by the internationally renowned photographer Brassai. He gained international recognition for his pictures of and around Paris, France. Brassai interacted and was friends with Henry Miller, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Andre Kertesz and several of the prominent writers of his time, including Jean Genet and Henry Michaux. Today Brassai's photographs are held in numerous important collections throughout the world.
This
quality sheet fed gravure print was originally issued as part of a bound compilation of dual sided photo-gravures printed in 1968 as
part of a special publishing project funded by the Museum Of Modern Art in New York City in conjunction with the New York Graphic Society. The photogravures coincided with MOMA's 1968 public exhibition of Brassai's work which was the fourth time the museum had exhibited his photography, the first time being in 1948. Whether you collect vintage photogravure prints or are simply looking for extraordinary home or business decor, this atmospheric photogravure will frame and display beautifully!
This photogravure plate is guaranteed to be authentic and comes with a hand signed CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (COA) with unique individual registered serial number from the Finephoto Vintage Archive & Database. Under magnification this plate shows a tight "honeycomb" cell structure, uniform pressing of ink and a wide range of tone - all indicative of a quality sheet fed gravure print. The watermark word "Finephoto" does not appear on the actual print.
