This practically Forever dryer light bulb is the ultimate replacement, regardless of whether current light bulb is working or not. Why? 1) Because the fragile thin filament in an ordinary light bulb could burn out anytime while it is heated to 1000’s degrees hot to produce light, 2) this heating wastes almost 90% of electricity used.

However this LED bulb gives out 10 times light with far less electricity and lasts v-e-r----y long time. Recently I’ve noticed a 5W clear nightlight bulb with “18 Lumens” printed on the package… This 2W LED bulb outputs about 200 Lumens.

Technical A typical incandescent light bulb in a dryer consumes as much as 15W of electricity and gives out about 1.5 W of light. 13.5W (90%) is used to heat the filament to glow, which in turn illuminate the area. As we have lived long enough, now we have transistorized replacements for the Thomas Edison era’s i-n-c-a-n-d-e-s-c-e-n-t light bulbs. It’s about time for LED light bulbs for our dryers, refrigerators, desktops, street lights and many more. With longevity of solid state electronics (reads transistors), an LED bulb is a hot replacement for the hot incandescent bulb. BTW, LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, a semi-conductor.

How to Replace? Here is a typical procedure. Before you order, please unscrew the burned-out bulb out of the dryer and measure the diameter of the screw base. The diameter should be 7/16” (11 mm).

Q) Will it fit my dryer?
A) Yes, as long as the base is 7/16” diameter (approximately 11 mm) screw-on. This is commonly called candelabra base and frequently used in nightlights, sewing machines and in chandeliers. FYI: The diameter of screw-in bulb is measured by peak to peak (thread ridge to ridge) or valley (thread groove) to valley.

Q) Truly, will this bulb last forever?
A) PRACTICALLY forever! Manufacturer claims 50,000+ hours like most LED bulbs in the market. If used 8 hours per day, it will come to 17 years [50,000 hours / 8 hr/ day = 6250 days ≈ 17 yrs]. Average of casual use, say 2 hours a week, it will be 480 years. However I have not lived 480 years (!) nor tested the bulb for 17 years yet. One sure thing, wouldn’t it payoff its value in savings of electricity over time?

Q) Can I use it in a nightlight?
A) NO! Though this LED fits, it keeps on and off. I believe the simple (and cheap) light sensor circuitry, which senses night and day, in a regular nightlight is not compatible with lighting mecahnism in this LED bulb.

I regularly burn-test these LED bulbs on my dinner table light fixture before pre-packing and getting ready to ship.
