About Eugéne Atget: A pioneer of documentary photography, Eugéne Atget dedicated most of his photographic career to the documentation of the architecture and street scenes of Paris, France around the turn of the century before they succumbed to the advance of modernization. Atget was an inspiration to the artists and photographers of his time who resided in and around Paris including Man Ray, André Derain, Henri Matisse, Picasso and Bernice Abbott who purchased many of his photographs near the end of his life. His work was largely unheralded until the last 2 years of his life and outside of his circle of artist friends, his genius was not fully recognized until well after his death. Today Atget is considered a giant in photographic history with his work held in important collections and museums throughout the world. Whether you collect vintage photogravure prints or are simply looking for extraordinary home or business decor, this authentic vintage 1963 photogravure will frame and display beautifully!
