Vintage Ihagee Exa 35mm Film Camera w/Isco Gottingen Westar 1:2.5/50mm Lens

Ihagee's most successful camera by far was the Exakta; Ihagee also made a smaller, less complex, version of the Exakta called the Exa.

The company was greatly affected by World War II. The Ihagee factory was destroyed during the Allied bombing of Dresden in April 1945. The partitioning of Germany after the war left Dresden and Ihagee in the Soviet occupation zone, later East Germany. The Soviet Union quickly reestablished Ihagee, producing some Exakta and Exa cameras from the parts and machinery that had survived the bombing.

The Exa 1a was constructed by the Ihagee Kamera Werk from Dresden in 1964. This company was founded 1912 and produced essentially the Exakta and Exa camera series. The Exa was conceived in the mid-50’s as a simple camera evolution of the Exakta to have a larger public access. And it’s true that the Exa is a very simple camera, no particular technical specification and very easy to use for everybody.

It’s a typical SLR camera with a vertical mirror viewfinder (a “TLR like”) coupled to the shutter. If you don’t advance the film, you’ll see nothing in the mirror (because, opposite to TLR cameras, there’s only one lense….) The image of the viewfinder is very clear and great enough to have a idea about what you’re shooting. In case of more precision for the focusing, you can unlock a little magnifying glass attached to theviewfinder. There are really some interesting ressemblances with a TLR camera, and you can almost have the same kind of feeling when shooting with the Exa.

Condition

This camera body has normal wear and the leather cover is intact. The shutter advances smoothly and pops at all speeds.
The back opens and closes properly, looks clean and the viewfinder is clear. This camera comes with film spool and leather case. 

The lens was made by Isco Gottingen Westanar, and has a focal length 50mm and a speed 2.8. This is a great lens, featuring smooth iris and focus. Also has a screw mount and clean glass.

Also comes with an original owners manual.
