New York, N.Y. Abrams. 1979. First edition. Limited Edition. Deluxe edition. Hardcover. With the Slipcase. SIGNED by LeRoy Neiman on the limitation page. Numbered. This is number 897. Leather binding in tweed and leather slipcase with gilt lettering and design. Very good in a good slipcase.

For many years artist LeRoy Neiman made the world of horses his own, capturing the glamour and grit of stable, paddock, turf, track,  breeding shed, show ring and hunt with a vivacity and brilliance that no mere photograph could match. Neiman’s horse paintings have long been cherished by his avid collectors. Now they have been faithfully reproduced in an oversize format, along with additional art created especially for this book, as well as photographs of the artist at work, memorabilia, and dozens of pages from his teeming sketchbooks.

Neiman has contributed text about horses garnered through years of artistic and scholarly study. Includes paintings of Secretariat, Seattle Slew, trainers, jockeys, Churchill Downs, Deauville, Pegasus, Tang Dynasty horses, re-creations of the Old Masters, and even the proverbial horse of a different color.

The leather spine has some rubbing. Few loose threads on the tweed cloth. Internally, clean and bright. The slipcase has moderate wear. Scuffing and scratches. Some light staining and soiling. Loose threads especially to the slipcase bottom edge. Slipcase itself is structurally sound.
