*NOTE TO EBAY - THESE BOXES ARE EMPTY AND DO NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED AMMUNITION COMPONENTS*

Up for your consideration is a set of four reproduction WWII-era 20 round ammunition cartons, one for .30 M2 BALL from the DENVER ORDNANCE PLANT, one for .30 M2 ARMOR PIERCING from the ST. LOUIS ORDNANCE PLANT, one for .30 M1 TRACER from the DES MOINES ORDNANCE PLANT, and one for .30 M1 INCENDIARY from FRANKFORD ARSENAL.

The .30-06 cartridge, first developed in 1906, was the official U.S. rifle and light machine gun cartridge in both World Wars and Korea. Total small arms ammunition production from 1940-1945 exceeded 41.7 billion rounds, and of that total the Caliber .30 round accounted for 25 billion rounds in all loadings (ball, armor-piercing, tracer, and incendiary). During the 1930s Frankford Arsenal was the only plant in the U.S. producing military small arms ammunition. In October 1941, the Arsenal was put on a 24-hour production schedule, which included 9 types of .30 caliber loadings and 5 types of .50 caliber loadings. It also supplied personnel for the expansion program that started in 1940. By then, with war under way in Europe, sites were selected for the first 3 government-owned, contractor-operated small arms ammunition plants. Of these 3, one was in Denver, Colorado, and one was in St. Louis, Missouri. The Denver Ordnance Plant was providing finished rounds by October 1941, and was the only facility that produced caliber .30 ammunition exclusively. When production ended there in July 1944, Denver had produced over 4.5 billion rounds in all loadings. The St. Louis Ordnance Plant was providing finished rounds by December 1941, and by the time production ended there in September 1945, it had produced over 7 billion rounds of caliber .30 and caliber .50, making it the world's largest producer of small arms ammunition. In mid-1941, the War Department started its "Second Wave" expansion, which included the Des Moines Ordnance Plant. First production began in January 1942, with the plant being set up to manufacture both .30 caliber and .50 caliber rounds. Production was halted in July 1945, with the total .30 caliber ammunition made exceeding 1.5 billion rounds.
