The Divina Commedia of Dante Alighieri: Consisting of the Inferno-Purgatorio-and Paradiso. Translated into English Verse, with Preliminary Essays, Notes, and Illustrations, by the Rev. Henry Boyd. London: Cadell and Davies 1802. vi, [2], 408; iv, 56, [2], 57-62, 65-384.

Volumes 1 and 2 (of three) of the first edition in English of Dante's Divine Comedy. The complete first English editions of Inferno and Purgatorio. Textblocks in very good condition (apart from one notable blemish), needing rebinding.

Inferno has detached boards (worn and chipped), perished spine, bookplate; pages have occasional foxing, a few minor smudges and creases; one instance (pictured) where some letters have been abraded away and an attempt has been made to fill them in with pen. Frontispiece portrait present.

Purgatorio has missing rear board, detached (worn and chipped) front board, perished spine; missing front and loose rear endpaper; pages have occasional foxing, minor blemishes. Interesting motif/ownership inscription. Lacks half-title, otherwise complete despite mispagination.
