GB 1950 BOARD OF TRADE OFFICIAL MAIL HAROLD WILSON ATTLEE GOVERNMENT PM

Important group of handstamps from a ledger of essays and specimens of certifying handstamps for British official mail (1901-1964). These handstamps are for the Board of Trade where Prime Minister Clement Attlee appointed Harold Wilson as the youngest ever cabinet minister in 1947 as president of the Board of Trade. This was a most important department given the nationalization of the iron and steel industry and the railways. These Board of Trade handstamps cover the period when Harold Wilson was president, the Labour government lost the election in 1951 when Hartley Shawcross took over as president on behalf of the conservative government led by Winston Churchill. An important and perhaps unique group of specimen handstamps for official mail.
