Rare Songbird Pattern Bennington Parian Porcelain Vase

10” h, c. 1850-58.


The largest of the six sizes (4½“, 5”, 6¼“, 7½“, 8¾“ & 10”) produced in the 1850’s. They were decorated in blue & white & left undecorated. The pattern, sizes, & decoration are shown in plate 266, p. 191 & plate 280, p. 205 of Barrett, Richard Carter, BENNINGTON POTTERY AND PORCELAIN, (1958).


Unmarked as usual. More than 80% of The Norton & Fenton wares of Bennington were unmarked. Rare, especially in the 10 inch size.

There is some damage to the leaf terminals of the grape bunch handles & a small shallow top rim edge chip. No cracks or hairlines.
