Bark STAR OF PERU: She was built in 1863 as the Himalaya, an iron full rigged ship by Pile, Hay & Co., Sunderland. Dimensions 201'2"×33'0"×20'4" and tonnage 1008 GRT. Around 1865, she was sold to Shaw, Savill & Co., London and employed in the New Zealand emmigrant trade. In 1880 Himalaya was reduced to a barque. Between 1896 and 1901 she was sold to Alaska Packers Co. and was renamed STAR OF PERU. In 1926, STAR OF PERU was sold to French owners and renamed Bougainville. She was sailed to the New Hebrides, where she became a copra hulk and rode out World War II.
