1931 Marx Merrymakers Lithographed Wind-Up Tin Toy w/box

Rare Desirable c. 1931 Marx Merrymakers Tin Wind-Up Toy--by far one of Marx's best toys!  The Merrymakers mouse band is decorated in red, white and black lithograph with the mice dressed in black coats, high-button shoes, white gloves & shirts, and red waistcoats.  A great collector's toy!!

The piano is thoroughly lithographed with full-figure mice, heads of cats, piano keys, and sheet music.  The back reads in large bold lettering "Marx Merrymakers".

One mouse rocks back & forth as he plays piano; another mouse beats a drum with a cat face on it while a third mouse dances, and a fourth mouse “plays” the violin sitting on top of the piano.

There’s a wind-up key on the right side and a start/stop lever.  It has always worked through the years as I tested it, but this time seemed sluggish until I prodded the gears.  Then it “revived”!  The start/stop lever works well.

This Merrymakers toy is in very good condition-- light scuffing on the piece from movement and use, and a scratch on the piano top.  The piece is 100% original, one of my father’s two toys growing up in the early 30s with the 59-cent sticker still on it.

Measures (with mice attached) approx. 9" W x 8-3/4" H x 4-7/8" D

Comes with its original box which is not in good condition from age. It has lost its lid, the left flap has torn off (but is included), and the seams are weak.  Flaps give visual and written assembly instructions The box’s colors are still bright.
