Broward County Sheriffs Office were the lead agency in the Parkland School Shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School last week where a former student armed with an AR15 killed 17 students and teachers at the school. While many heroes gave their lives saving other students, Coral Springs Police and Broward County Sheriffs Office Deputy's deployed over 200 officers in this mass casualty active shooter incident. Many surviving students and teachers barricaded themselves in classrooms and closets for up to 4 hours until the SWAT team arrived and cleared each room of the school. We salute all the brave officers and fire personnel who responded. The school is planning to reopen this coming week to half days schedules for the students to ease back into their regular schedule. The building where many were killed remains a crime scene and there  are no plans to ever open the building again to students due to the trauma suffered there. Plans are to demolish it and put a permanent memorial in its place to honor the 17 dead. There is a huge temporary memorial in front of the school with 17 lighted angels and a cross or star of david for each person killed.
