These Amish platform beds are made and shipped directly from the amish woodworking shop in NW Montana. All our beds are made of lodgepole pine and assembled with mortise and tenon joinery for a very robust log bed. 

We choose to work with lodgepole pine as it grows naturally in the forests of NW montana and is known for its superior strength to weight ratio. It is also straighter, thus making it easier to work the raw wood into the highest quality furniture possible. Our lodge pole pine is harvested in the Kootenai National Forest via a very selective process. Skilled woodsmen select each tree with an attentive eye toward the quality, straightness and size of each specimen. After felling, each piece is hand carried to the road to ensure both the tree and the environment remain unharmed. Then each log is hand peeled, using the skip-peel method where some of the inner bark is left on the logs, creating a beautiful rustic piece of furniture for your home, lodge or cabin.

There is often some checking in the logs which is a natural occurrence with lodge pole pine, but it does not affect the strength and durability of the bed. It actually adds rustic charm and character to them.  One great advantage of furnishing your home with rustic log pine furniture is the simple upkeep on the furniture. No worries about nicks and dings as they only enhance the rustic look of the furniture. If the scratch or nick is too deep, simply sand it down and re-apply some varnish or whatever finish you chose to use on it.
