THIS LOT CONTAINS THE BROWN 1916 "WAR TAX" STAMP FROM  CANADA,  SCOTT CATALOG #MR4, IN FINE-VERY FINE UNUSED CONDITION.

Revenue had to be raised to fund the war effort during World War I. Canada chose to add a one cent surcharge (a penny added up in those days) to the then-current "Admiral" series depicting King George V. The entire set consists of only seven stamps with a major catalog numbers, but there are also some interesting minor varieties.
