We have been searching for a very long time for just the right cast iron wood stove door to make a clock from.  When we found this door in the basement of a Northern Maine antique shop we knew we found just what we had been searching for.   As shown, this has cast in raised letters - MONITOR - 88 -  F. H. HAINES - P. ISLE. ME.  We do not know if Mr. Haines was a stove dealer and had these doors custom made as advertising or whether there was a Haines foundry in Presque Isle, Maine at some point in time.  This has been painstakingly polished down to the bare metal, i.e. all the rust, scale and dirt have been removed.  A flat bar hanging bracket has been gas welded on the top back for hanging.  The original door handle has been gas welded in place.  We chose to paint this a flat black which most closely resembles the color of a wood heater that has been "blackened".   The clock mechanism is quartz and runs on one AA battery.  The hands are solid brass.  Measures 13 3/4" wide x 13 1/2" high.  The total weight of the clock is 12 1/2 lbs.  Great decorator item for your country house or log cabin or bring it back home.  This is a one of a kind item and you may never see another.
