Scarce Russian "Red Book Wildlife" series 1993 TURKMEN GECKO 50 Roubles - one-year type; about 25 mm in diameter, weights 6.1 grams. Originally designed as the Soviet commemorative series scheduled for 1991 release, most of the "Red Book" issues came out in 1993 and 1994, after 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.
Uncirculated condition with attractive golden-honey patina on the bronze. Bi-metallic type; copper-nickel and aluminum-bronze alloys; semi-reeded pattern on the rim. A few typical minor bag marks are noted for accuracy. Struck at the Leningrad's mint; only 300K issued - a tiny mintage for such a large country.
