Rare & Beautiful First Series 21" Jumeau Portrait Fashion Poupee, 1870-1880. This marvelous doll still has the original stamp on her body, marked:  "La Galerie Vivienne M. GAILLARD JEUX O7 JUETS REMOND SUCCESSEUR 4 rue Notre Dame des Petits Champs Paris." She has that gorgeous child's cherubic face that makes her a rare French Portrait Poupee, or Bebe. Her creamy pressed bisque face is absolutely exquisite and, except for a slight factory rub on her right cheek, is in excellent condition She has the typical earlier Jumeau letter identification mark, a lower case "g," on the back of her neck. She has pierced ears, with one small fleck at one of the openings. Her large, almond-shaped eyes are pale blue, spiral blown glass, with softly feathered eyebrows and mauve eye shadow. There are faint traces of the blue stamp on her gusseted, kid body, which is in good condition with a few rust dots and a slight leakage under one arm. The kid is generally supple with slight typical drawing up at the knees. There are faint traces of the blue stamp on her body. She has separate toes. She is wearing her original pate and hand-tied blonde mohair wig which has become somewhat sparse over the years. Her clothes are original but may, or may not, be original to her. Unfortunately, her skirt and top are full of moth holes which are quite big at the back. Her white chemise and pantaloons are in very good condition. She is wearing French woven black stockings and red leather shoes. Her shoes might not be original because they are a bit tight. Her antique straw hat with red ribbon is adorable!
