Here we have an 8" x 10" photograph of Adolph Luetgert. Luetgert owned a sausage factory on Chicago's North Side near Diversey & Paulina. His wife, Louise Luetgert, went missing one day in 1897. In the course of the investigation, what little that remained of her was found in the grease remnants of a sausage vat. Adolph died in prison for the crime. For decades afterwards, area children had a jump-roping rhyme about it:

Old man Luetgert made sausage out of his wife!
He turned on the steam,
His wife began to scream,
There`ll be a hot time in the old town tonight!
