US Marines Raising Flag Iwo Jima Mount Suribachi WWII Silver Halide Photo #1

Here we have a black-and-white photo of the famous flag raising by members of the 5th Marine Division on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945. This iconic image by Joe Rosenthal of the Associated Press became a staple of American patriotism and remains one of the most recognized photos of World War II, although this was not the first actual flag raising.
