Here we have a poster created from an original 1895 print showing the Custom House Levee District in Chicago. This was in the First Ward in an area more commonly known in modern times as Printers Row. The area was probably one of the wickedest of Chicago's vice areas having sprung up after the Great Fire. Dearborn Station bordered it at Polk & Dearborn and naive passengers who managed to make it past the army of pimps who pretty much resided at the station, would wander outside and find themselves in the midst of such establishments as Carrie Watson’s brothel, amongst other attractions in this den of iniquity. The area was so bad that by 1903 Chicago's political leaders started cracking down and most of the areas' operators relocated South to the better-known South Side Levee District. Our posters are shipped in sturdy mailing tubes, fully insured!

This poster is printed on heavy, 230 gsm (10 pt cover), premium matte art paper. Posters are centered on full sized paper to accommodate readily available frames or custom matting. The image size refers specifically to the artwork itself, not the size of the paper it is printed on. Therefore, the paper size is always larger than the image size.  All posters have a minimum 1/4" white border.
