This is a Louis XVI Period LADIES/ Child's Chair Circa 1750-1800. It is made of Beechwood. It has an oval crest, geometic legs, columned legs, simplicity of design, all factors in determining its design and style. If you turn the chair over it has a light brown patina, which is what you would expect from an 18th century chair. The worm holes , which are typical in beechwood from the 18th century are in a zig zag pattern, again what you would expect from a chair from this period. The chair is light because the oils have evaporated from the wood and it is smooth with age, no sharp edges. THINK OF THIS CHAIR IN YOUR HOME, A PERIOD 18TH CENTURY PIECE, AT THE TIME OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. A TRUE CONVERSATION PIECE. !!!!!!!!
The chair has been authenticated by a graduate of The Ecole Boulle in Paris, France, the world's most important school for the makers of furniture. It is 32 inches tall, 17 inches depth and 15 inches at mid to lower center. It has been upholstered in the traditional and expensive manner of horse hair and burlap by a French artisan, trained in France in the art of traditional upholstery. It is ready for the customer's choice of fabric. It is most likely this chair was for an aristocratic nursery or for an elegant ladies chair. Examples of period chairs similar to this chair are on page 60 of Transition Louis XVI by Claude Paule Wiegandt. Please look at photographs.
