This is an important English George III Rolled Sheffield Plate Supper Service Circa 1800 on a mahogany cart. This service was made for the Loftie Family of Tangeragee, County Armagh, Ireland. The service bears the Loftie family crest stating " Loyal Au Mort " translated " Loyal Until Death". The actor Jeremy Irons is a descendant of the Loftie family. He currently resides in County Cork, Ireland.

The service is 33 inches high by 26 inches depth and 38 inches in length.

Oblong hot water container with handles enclosing central round tureen with cover having dog's head finial and flanked by four oblong similarly covered service vessels and two open Briston Glass Salt Cellars and two pepper casters. The Bristol Glass is original. INCREDIBLY THE GLASS IS IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS.

The service is signed with an OPEN HAND. The open hand is registered with both Smith N & Co 1784 and Watson J & Son 1830, both English Silversmiths.

A truly unique piece fit for a beautiful dining room. There is a large round silver piece, visible in the second photo. This unscrews and enabled the house staff to insert boiling water into the supper service to keep the food warm. It is an incredible supper service that should be used as well as on display. The quality of this piece, as well as the beauty would have made this service at home in a country estate or in a city mansion.
