Maurice Daurat, silversmith sculptor Art-Deco, French book
This hardcover book with 304 color pages presents the French artist
Maurice Daurat (1880 - 1969), silversmith sculptor of the Art-Deco period
very early influenced in his work by nature and japonism, result from Art Nouveau inspired creations.
Over time, his style is refined to tend to a geometrization of forms.
Trained at the School of applied art Germain-Pilon, created under the Third Republic in order to reconcile art and industry,
the silversmith Maurice Daurat combines the sensitivity of an artist with a simplicity of craftsman.
Abandoning in the 1920s cast iron and carving for hammer mounting,
Maurice Daurat works very early tin, then despised metal, which he will exploit the qualities
with a rare talent to make unique pieces or in very small series, but also monumental works,
as the vases of the liner Normandy in 1935 or the luminaire vase with a height of 3.12 meters
for the Alma rotunda of the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris in 1937.
Daurat is interested in different techniques (casting, carving, hammer mounting, sculpture)
and different materials including tin, thus achieving exceptional works of great stylistic and technical originality.
