Nottingham Trams - Part 2

In March 2004 a second generation tram system opened in Nottingham. Known as NET (Nottingham Express Transit) this new network consisted essentially of one line from Hucknall in the north of the city and a short branch to a park and ride facility at Cinderhill (Phoenix Park). The tram lines were parallel with a heavy rail line for part of the journey before running onto the street and a terminus adjacent to Nottingham railway station. Built by Bombardier, Fifteen Incentro trams were delivered which were based and maintained at the depot on Wilkinson Street.

In August 2015 the second phase of NET opened with two substantial lines serving the south and south west of the city. From an extension at Nottingham station, the turquoise line runs to Chilwell (Toton Lane) and serves Beeston, the university, hospital and business park. The purple line serves Wilford and Clifton Village, terminating at Clifton South. 22 Alstom Citadis trams were added to the fleet. The Nottingham system presently consists of 37 trams, with 50 stops, 20 route miles, eight park and ride facilities and it carried 12.2 million passengers in 2015/2016. With full support and assistance from NET, these two titles look at the system in detail.

Nottingham Trams - Part 2 includes some unusual moves on both routes, filmed from the cab, such as The Forest centre track, Clifton Centre turnback siding and various crossovers. Then we take a look at the Toton Lane to Hucknall line, with various run pasts showing highlights along the route including viaducts, bridges and the narrow street running through the city centre. This is followed by an uninterrupted cab ride over the entire route. Bonus footage: 700 seconds in the life of Nottingham City Centre!
