These are bendable, so to use you twist ends away from each other, insert and then twist ends back to the original position. Depending on the gauge and diameter selected, tools may be required (the larger the gauge and smaller the diameter, the less likely you will be able to bend with only your hands...especially after it's inserted into your piercing).
