IN RECOGNITION OF
SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT IN
SALUTE THE SOLDIER WEEK'

..these plaques were presented to communities who engaged in war savings campaigns Generally displayed in the foyer of the local town hall or similar....there were of course many campaigns during WW2 including SPITFIRE WEEK etc....only two of these campaigns used BAKELITE in the plaques...perhaps so they didn't want to use large amounts of metal which was badly needed for the war effort...I know there were drives to donate metal and recycled items for that use. DE LA RUE was commissioned to make these plaques...Beautiful works of art and design of a high quality.....they came in two sizes....perhaps to reflect the monies raised ? .The two bakelite plaques were made were SALUTE THE SOLDIER WEEK & WINGS FOR VICTORY WEEK .
