This is a kit to add a removable (i.e. solderless) USB-A (i.e. full-size) plug onto a Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3, W or WH (I sell a cheaper alternative which must be soldered; check my other listings to find it). The Raspberry Pi Zero itself is not included.

The USB-A plug turns the Raspberry Pi Zero into a dongle and allows the Raspberry Pi to connect to the Internet via a host computer and allows the host computer to connect to the Raspberry Pi via SSH or VNC remote desktop.

This board does NOT need to be soldered onto the Pi. It uses spring contacts and is held against the Raspberry Pi Zero using the supplied nylon nuts and screws. There are four screws and eight nuts - first attach the screws to the USB board using one set of nuts and then attach the Raspberry Pi to the USB board using the second set of nuts. This will ensure that there is enough space so that the spring contacts are not crushed.

To prepare your microSD installation to connect via USB SHH, make the following modifications:
  • Flash your SD card as usual using Etcher or Win32DiskImager
  • Open up the "boot" partition and edit "config.txt", adding "dtoverlay=dwc2" to the bottom
  • Open up "cmdline.txt" and add "modules-load=dwc2,g_ether" after "rootwait"
  • Create a new file named "ssh" in the boot folder
This is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero 1.2 (the one which does not have a camera connector/socket).

Orders will be despatched within one day in recycled packaging.
